The article argues that despite its global reputation as a hallmark of ‘democratic socialism’, the Swedish workplace democracy reform was a broad cross-class compromise, in the wake of a pan-European wave of similarly 2018-03-10 Swedish population voted. At the same time, there is a growing debate in Sweden over the state of democracy. As in many other European countries, the public in Sweden is becoming more dissatisfied with the traditional institutions of representative democracy and with conventional forms of participation. 2017-09-13 Furuskog's reflections on "the Swedish cultural heritage" and the claimed deep historical roots of democracy in the Swedish philosophical tradition constitute a highly illuminating example in this context. Internationally the ‘Nordic model’ is often considered to mean welfare states and consensual policies in the labour market.
